Just like that, she communicated her thoughts directly to the owner.

If it were me, my mind would be racing with thoughts like, "Oh my god, if I complain like this, will the owner think I'm high-maintenance or an *ào-kè*?" In Taiwan, *ào-kè* refers to difficult, troublesome customers who love to make things hard for businesses, and the term probably originates from Taiwanese Hokkien.

Personally, if they started tasting bad last year, the most I would do is just not buy them again this year. But to my surprise, after receiving this feedback, the owner directly shipped a whole box of gorgeous pears to our house, saying, "Don't worry about it, I'll send a box over first. Try them out, and if you like them, you can buy more." It turned out that the box he sent was of the premium quality he usually sells. And this year's pears were indeed delicious, so my mother-in-law ended up ordering several boxes to send to friends and relatives. Since she got a whole box for free—and they weren't cheap—she felt a bit bad afterwards and ended up transferring the money for that box to the owner anyway.
